Artist Highlight – Anton Emdin
Anton is a JetPens customer and a freelance cartoonist and illustrator who has been been doing this full-time for over 15 years. Anton has done almost every kind of illustration and animation, but these days he focuses on magazine, book, editorial, and commercial art. Regular magazine contributions include People and MAD (Aust. editions) and work for many others such as FHM, Ralph, Money, Rolling Stone, Penthouse and a few book publishers. He also does commercial illustration through his agency, The Drawing Book (www.drawingbook.com.au). What are some of your favorite JetPens products?
I love brush pens, and use the Akashiya Bamboo Barrel, Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, and the Pilot Brush Ben (Hard) all the time. They are all different, and are good for different occasions.
Give us a little insight as to how you use our JetPens products in your illustrations.
The pace of commercial illustration has forced me to work digitally for the most part, but I am constantly doodling and sketching when away from the computer. Besides a sable brush, I find the hair brush pens to be pretty close in feel, and being portable allows me to use them anywhere. For my faster, more cartoony style, I like the more ‘pen’ style (like the Pilot Hard) which are great for signing, doodles, and a more controlled look.
Thanks for sharing your work Anton!
